Bees

Bees are wonderful creatures that are essential for the environment we live in. However, there’s no denying that when bees set up their hives in your property, this can cause a real nuisance and make you feel unsafe. Although most colonies are found outside, it’s not uncommon for bees to find their way into indoor spaces such as garages, especially during the Spring, when they are seeking new nesting sites.

For our top tips for avoiding a bees nest in your garage, read on.

Keep it tidy

Most garages are untidy as they’ll usually full of miscellaneous items and tools. Keeping it organised can prevent animals from building nests in hidden areas where they can’t be seen. Try and give your garage a once over every so often, so the area becomes uninhabitable for pests. Adding shelves, hooks and generally keeping things tidy will prevent pests from taking over the place and making the room easier for you to use too. In particular, try not to leave old grass cuttings in the lawn mower as this is often a popular place to setup home.

Hire a professional

If you notice the beginnings of a nest in your garage, hire a professional service before things progress. Door archways are popular places for bees to build their hives, which means you could end up getting stung when you open your garage door. Signs of a beehive nearby include a constant trail of bees and increased buzzing sounds, so always call an expert if you suspect a nest has been build on your property.

Move in and out

Bees usually look for a new nest during early spring, and garages are often the perfect spot. During the winter, garages are used less often as there’s less need for outdoor tools, bikes and other seasonal items. This undisturbed space is attractive to bees as they tend to seek areas that are quieter and more settled. Try and go in and out of the garage as much as you can.
